Many patients with vision problems embrace the idea of enjoying vision correction without having to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. Not all of these patients, however, are good candidates for PRK or Lasik surgery. Some of our patients simply don't like the idea of any kind of surgery, or they want a reversible procedure. Orthokeratology may be an ideal choice for these individuals.
Custom-fitted, gentle vision shaping contact lenses are worn while you sleep to temporarily reshape the cornea to improve vision during the day. You will be able to see clearly without the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Orthokeratology is a great choice for children. Kids that use orthokeratology have shown improvement in their vision, and in some cases have shown a slow in their progression of myopia, thus they won't inherit their parent's prescription of myopia. While there is no way to predict the effect on each individual child, ortho-k has seen great results as a whole. Plus, if your child wears the lenses at night they are less likely to break expensive eyewear during the day when they play sports or other activities.
